The short story of Lucy's very long birth!:
Charlotte began early labor at midnight on Monday. By Tuesday morning things had slowed down engough that we decided to drive up Mt. Mansfield for one last pre-baby view of the world. Her mother (and midwife) Retta and sister Meg arrived Tuesday evening. Wednesday things sort of picked up - her waters broke that morning - and she spent the day walking, puking and contracting. That night our Doula, Polly Perez arrived. Thursday was pretty similar to Wednesday only now Charlotte was getting tired - having not slept through the night since Monday. By Thursday night we were ready for the real action and "real" labor started around 10:00 that night and lasted until 6am the next morning, when finally she was fully dialated. She moved to the hot tub to push, and after 5 hours of pushing(!), our little Lucy came rocketing into the world at top speeds (this according to Jerome). Her lungs were in top shape, and as you can see she is otherwise curious and alert to this new bright, loud world. Every one was exhausted, so we spent most of the rest of the day and night in bed. The birth assistants have all gratefully also returned to their beds, and the three of us are getting to know eachother . . . feel free to call, we unplug the phone if we're busy or asleep, but we are also happy to talk! |
